KANNAWIDAN YLOCOS FESTIVAL

Ilocos Sur has a rich heritage unique culture and significant history that are to be preserved for the next generations because it is observed that many of these traditions, songs, dances and other Ilocano culture are not familiar to the younger generations already. Children of today are paying more attention to the modern and novelty dances they seen on the television than the traditional ones. There is also a need to evaluate the different products of the different municipalities and the agricultural products and livestock of the farmers and fisher folks. Because of this, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur conceived a festival that will highlight these culture and traditions and attract local and foreign tourists as well. They call it the KANNAWIDAN Ylocos Festival, it is also a time to commemorate the anniversary of Ilocos Sur as a province since it was separated on February 3, 1818.
Living treasures of Ilocos Sur were also recognized during the weeklong festivity. Thirty two individuals and groups were included in the list of this year’s awardees. Plaque and cash were given to all the awardees as the provincial government’s approach to persuade them to continue what they are doing and to encourage the younger generation to do the same. And we the Ilcanos should stand proud for the another success festival.Cheers! for the KANNAWIDAN YLOCOS FESTIVAL..

New Year, New Me

It's time to pop out in our own shell.A New Year is unfolding liked a blossom with petals curled tightly concealing the beauty within. For last's years words belong to last's years language and next's years words await a new another voice. The object of a new year is not that we should have a new year .Is it that we have a new soul.A new year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. Many people look forward to the new year for new start on old habits.
Another fresh new year is here.Another year to live,to vanish worry, doubt and fear and to obtain love, laugh and give.New Year's Resolution,to tolerate fools gladly, provided  this does not encourage them to take up more of my life.Cheers to a new year and live long..

Mother Tounge

first language also native languagemother tonguearterial language is the language a person has learned from birth or within the critical period, or that a person speaks the best and so is often the basis for sociolinguistic identity. In some countries, the terms native language or mother tongue refer to the language of one's ethnic group rather than one's first language.
Sometimes the term mother tongue or mother language is used for the language that a person learnt as a child at home (usually from their parents). Children growing up in bilingual homes can, according to this definition, have more than one mother tongue or native language.
It is quite possible that the first language learned is no longer a speaker's dominant language. This includes young immigrant children, whose families have moved to a new linguistic environment, as well as people who learned their mother tongue as a young child at home (rather than the language of the majority of the community), who may have lost, in part or in totality, the language they first acquired.

Climate Change in the Philippines

The Philippines has experienced temperature spikes brought about by climate change. It has been observed that warming is experienced most in the northern and southern regions of the country, while Metro Manila has warmed less than most parts. These include deadly and damaging typhoons, floods, landslides, severe El Niño and La Niña events, drought, and forest fires. Adversely affected sectors include agriculture, fresh water, coastal and marine resources and health. The increase in temperature is already is causing irregular monsoon and extreme weather events in recent decades that devastate the fishery sectors.
These climate-related impacts will devastate Philippine fisheries and the mercury and lead emissions from coal-fired power plants, particularly in the inner seas of the Visayas will probably render whatever remains of our fisheries unfit for human consumption. The advent of climate change just made the challenges to our mission more complex.
In order to prevent these disaster,we must be aware of disposing our garbage.we must learn to love our nature.

EQUAL RIGHTS,EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Genuine equality between women and men, girls and boys can only be realised in the process of a just, fair and humane transformation of our society as a whole. There is need to educate ourselves and others to take a more correct view of women and to actively redress the injustices done to women in all our institutions - the Church, state and family. This being the case, the calls for the true empowering of women to enable them to participate in decision making in our society need to be heeded.
Gender characteristics the differing roles, responsibilities, constraints, opportunities and needs of females and males in all areas and in any given social context. Hence, one can safely say that gender roles are learned behaviors in a given society, community or other social groups. These include arguments that women are weaker than men; women are not good decision makers and hence cannot be in position of high authority and also that the whole discussion of gender equality is foreign and goes against our lives.
We must realize that women as citizens have just the same rights that we do in holding positions of power, participating in their national development process and most of all, to be treated with dignity and respect just as we expect to be.We should be aware that the liberation of women from these injustices is part and parcel of the liberation of all the poor and oppressed.
